Boardwalk RC Masters
The Boardwalk RC began years ago as a training group for a couple of local Beach area teachers. Slowly, more runners were invited to join the weekly Wednesday speed sessions on the boardwalk. Eventually, the group would grow and include year round training at Variety Village indoor track through the winter months. The group of masters runners would eventually begin competing in the Ontario Masters Athletics (OMA) sanctioned events, and championships, as the Village People Runners Club. In 2012, the group would officially change it's name to the Boardwalk RC.
The training philosophy of the Masters group is that more is not always better. The Masters focus on quality and not quantity. The Masters follow The Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST) method. This includes 3 key workouts, Wednesday Speedwork, Friday Tempo (which they call Friday night at the races), and a Sunday Long Run.
The Boardwalk RC Masters compete in OMA events all year long, as well as other local and fun races.
The group runs 5 key workouts
1) 2x1000m, 3x500m, 4x250m (Marathoners add 1x 1500m at 5k race pace)
2) 4x(4x250m), (Marathoners add 2x1000m at 5k Race pace)
3) 10x500m, (Marathoners do 12x500m)
4) 5x1000m
5) 3x1500m at 5k race pace, (Marathoners do 4x)
