The month of May has brought the schools back to the track. Our Boardwalk athletes always look forward to this time of year, and showing their classmates what all their handwork and dedication is for. In our march towards the city championships of each respective school board, the kids will have to qualify as top 3, 4 or 8 finishers in each meet. We wish the best to all our athletes in their pursuits, and we are confident that many personal bests will be set and championships won during the course of the next two months.
Here are some highlights so far. Ben Loewen has won the CISAA Championship in the grade 7 boys 1500m in a time of 5:04, as well as rounding out his championships with a Silver in the 800m, and a 5th place finish in the 80mH. Conditions were not ideal for our first outdoor meet in Burlington, but our youth athletes were up for the challenge and did not disappoint. With winds coming at them and chilly temps on the field they somehow managed to stay warm in-between their races and give stellar performances on the track. Evan Carter started the day with the Atom 200m hurdle event, where he flew effortlessly to the finish in a time of 32.19 and secured himself the first gold medal of the day. Alexandra Mills was up next in the Tyke 1200m, her first outdoor meet and she kicked it all the way to the finish in 4:44.0 and placed second. Her first silver medal and the club's second medal of the day. Charlie Mills, PBd his way to a good medal in the Atom 1500m with a time of 5:03.95. Lucy Carpenter worked hard during her Seniors 1500m and held on to fourth place, finishing in a time of 5:13.91. The 400m races were next with Tyke girls, Chloe Pilz and Alexandra Mills finishing 4th with a time of 1:19.74 and 6th with a time of 1:24.34 respectively. Natalie Burrows raced strong and fast in her Atom heat with a time 31.47 and placed 14th. Charlie Pilz took 4th place in the Atom 400m with a time 1:09.62, an outstanding race, he fought hard right to the the finish. Dominic Temple ran his Seniors 400m in just an under a minute at 59.25 with a 7th place ranking. The last track event of the day for us was the 800m races. Chloe started us off with her strong performance that garnered her a 2nd place win with a time of 3:03.92 and the club's 4th medal of the day. The "Charlies" were up next as all the Atom boys ran strong through the windy conditions, waiting for the perfect time to pounce and move into the lead. Charlie Pilz took a very well-fought for 5th place with a time of 2:36.84 followed closely by Charlie Mills who placed 6th with a time of 2:38.74. Dominic, in our last track event of the day, running the Senior 800m gave us a performance to talk about. The pack started slower than normal, perhaps anticipating the strong winds, the steady pace led to an amazing finish where many of the athletes had a lot left in the legs to turn up the jets in the last 200m of the race. It was a tough fight to the finish. Dominic placed 4th in a time of 2:20.24. Last but not least is our one field event for the day, Running Long Jump, where Evan made several amazing jumps and placed 5th out of 23 Atom boys with his best jump at 4.15m. Great start to our outdoor season! Several Boardwalk runners hit the streets of downtown Toronto to take part in the annual Sporting Life 10k race. The race was fast and warm. Clarence led the Boardwalk crew with a time of 34:36. Followed by Cameron Woo and Jimmy Semes who crossed the line at the same time at 38:59. This was Charlie Mills' debut 10k race and he managed to break 40 mins with a time of 39.24. Followed closely by Lucy Carpenter at 39:32. Joanna Kotsopoulos finished in 45:17. All our athletes stepped up and raced strong. Always a fun race for an amazing cause. Until Next year... |
