Boardwalk RC was proud to send 3 competitors to the Provincial Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Burlington. MTA Sr. Cameron Woo, Atom Olivia Forrest and Tyke Charlie Mills. All 3 competitors ran the 800m; Olivia also ran the 200m, Cameron and Charlie also competed in the 1500m. The story of the day had to be the Indoor 1500m Provincial Champion adding the Outdoor Provincial Championship to his resume. Charlie Mills went thru the first 300m in 5th place, and then never looked back. He cruised to the title with authority and gaped the runner-up by 4 seconds. His finish time was 5:50.87It is a first for the new Boardwalk RC youth program, but the future looks bright for even more success. In the 800m Mills was able to run a solid 2:57.60 for 8th place. Cameron Woo returned to the Championships this year after being the first ever Boardwalk RC competitor last year. In the morning's 1500m race, Cameron ran close to his personal best time in finishing 17th. He ran 5:14.09. Later in the afternoon he found a little more in the tank and was able to run another great time for the 800m, something that's hard to do. He ran 800m in 2:35.42. Olivia Forrest has been working tirelessly to expand her running potential. She has always fancied herself a sprinter and rarely ventures far from the 200m, but she decided to take the plunge and give the 800m a try. However, her first race of the day was the 200m. In a crowded field of runners, Olivia managed a 27th place finish in 34.64. In the 800m Olivia found herself running with a group of girls, and thru the first lap she even led her pack. She began to tire in the last 100m, but it was a great first attempt at the distance. She finished 24th place in 3:10.94. Boardwalk RC looks forward to continued success and an even bigger contingent of runners next year.

The 2014 Canadian Masters Outdoor Championship took place this weekend. Ontario Master Provincial Champions Joanna Kotsopoulos W40, Tanya Sakharov W30 and Jimmy Semes M35 looked to continue their winning ways against the rest of the country. In the end Tanya was able to claim the National Championship crown, while Joanna and Jimmy had to settle for silver medals. Both Joanna and Jimmy ran fine races, and despite not winning their races, both were able to peak at the right time and improve on their provincial championship times. Jimmy's 800m came down to the wire, as Shawn Beaton of Nova Scotia was able to make a pass in the closing meter of the race. His come from behind sprint lead to a .44 second victory. Joanna and Jimmy also entered the 1500m as provincial champions, and both athletes finished with respectable 4th place finishes. Cameron Woo, Charlie Mills, Olivia Forrest and their coaches Norton Woo, and Jimmy Semes travelled to the blue track of Terry Fox stadium in Brampton this weekend. Results are not yet posted online, however we can report that both Olivia and Charlie ran personal bests.
