For the 30th year the Cabbagetown Festival hosted the Blair's Run 2k race. The race itself is probably closer to a mile, but in years past it has been as long as 3k. It is a hidden gem among races in the city. It still offers a low registration fee ($20), breakfast, a t-shirt, and great prizes to the top 5 in each age category. Funds raised from the race support the Cabbagetown Youth Centre. The race was chosen as way for the kids to kick off their fall racing season and test their fitness. The Masters group was headed over to the island to compete in another great race, the Longboat 10k and 5k. Boardwalk RC was represented by a group of 10 runners in the field of 184 participants (1 coach, 8 youth athletes, and 1 parent). Our hard work in practices made this neighbourhood race through side streets and alleys a breeze. In the end many prizes were won, including pedicures, toys, tennis racquets, volleyball nets, gelato, and leafs tickets!
