The City Championships were contested this week on four different days for High School, and elementary groups. On Tuesday October 22, the TDSB High School athletes from Boardwalk competed in Etobicoke, trying to punch their tickets to OFSAA in Sudbury. Qualification for OFSAA is quite difficult with only 2 teams and 5 individuals qualifying from a field of over 100. Emma Molloy, Mary MacDonald, Charlie Mills, and Lucy Carpenter were representing Malvern C.I. along with Coach Semes who has been a member of the coaching staff this season. In the Novice Girls race, Emma Molloy continued her strong running this season and moved up in placings from the previous tune up meets. She placed 5th and assured her place in Sudbury. Not only did she place high individually, she also was the leader of her team which finished second as a team claiming a Silver medal along with teammate Mary MacDonald. In Novice Boys, Charlie Mills also ran his way to an automatic berth with a 4th place finish, and led his team to their own set of silver medals as well. And in the Junior girls race Lucy was determined to join her teammates, so at halfway she powered down the big ski hill to pass two runners and never looked back on her way to a 5th place finish, qualifying the hard way because Malvern does not have a junior girls team! On the TDCSB High School side, Illix Machado and Charlie Pilz helped Neil McNeil qualify for OFSAA as the Gold medal team from their region. The boys finished 18th and 24th as the 4th and 5th runners for their team. OFSAA will take place in Sudbury on November 2nd. Be prepared for cold weather and snowy conditions! In the Elementary section the group showed they were ready once again. Ty Machado continued his winning ways and secured the TDCSB elementary championship. On the TDSB side Boardwalk added another City Champion in grade 6 Josh Gladney. It was Josh’s first win of the season, he trully saved his best for last. Josh had to hold off the pursuits of his club teammates Caeden Smith (2nd), William Scharf (3rd), Finn Veale (6th), and James Yates (17th). Alic Webster also added a silver medal in the boys grade 7 race. Overall it was a great day for all our runners, as they all finished in the top half of the results at the City Championships, a very commendable feat. 29 boardwalk athletes and 13 top 10 finishes
