Ontario Masters Provincial Championships - Day 2

Day 2 was all about the 800m. Tanya Sakharov (W30), Joanna Kotsopoulos (W40), Mark Duff (M50) and Jimmy Semes (M35) had all entered.

In the first heat of 800's Tanya and Joanna ran in a heat of 10 women. Tanya would go on to win the heat and the gold in the W30 category with a time of 2:28.13 and Joanna would place 7th in the heat, winning W40 gold in her first attempt at 800m in a time of 3:01.27. The highlight of the race though had to be the W80 world record by Alice Cole, 3:43.62, that puts her in the 102.63 percentile when age graded! Wow.

Mark Duff M50 ran in heat 3, and won silver in that category. His time was 2:31.75. 

Jimmy Semes M35 had a strong run nearly ducking under 2:10. Entering his heat he was seeded 5th and was to try and keep that position for the first lap. However, an unwillingness for any of the other competitors to jump out in behind leader Michal Kapral (who ran 2:04.74) led to Jimmys move into 2nd position. The first 200m split in 33sec, 400m was split in 1:03 (:30), 600m clocked 1:33 (:30), and the finish time was 2:10.84 (:37) which was good for gold in the M35, but a 4th place finish in the heat as 2 runners passed him in the final 60m. 

Over the weekend, the great results lead to the team earning 53 points, which was good for 5th place in the team competition.
