After months of training the young runners of Boardwalk were excited to see if all the accumulated miles would help them reach their goals. For some the goal was to make their school team, for others to personal best, and for others to see if a place at the city finals is on the horizon. Some even aspire to reach the podium. All run happy, knowing anything is possible. Racing is easy, practice is hard. I'm proud of the work each of the kids from Boardwalk did to earn a spot on their school teams. Hard work pays off, and these kids work hard!

Today, many of the schools from the Beach area and the South East of Toronto gathered at Birchmount Stadium to contest their first meet of the season. A top 4 finish at this meet earns a student a trip to the Conference Final. It will take another top 4 finish at the Conference Final to earn a spot into the City Final.

Boardwalk had 11 athletes represent their schools today in multiple events. Dominic Temple, Fiona Pavlovska, Evan Carter, Sacha Kopach, Charlie Mills, Charlie Pilz, Sebastian McIsaac, Calvin Warrillow, Finn Stinson, Christopher Gregory and Nate Warrillow.

Official results and times will be reported later in the week. Here are some highlights from todays action.

1500m - Grade 4 Charlie Mills wins in an unofficial time of 5:25, and with a lead that looks to be about 100m over second place. Grade 6 Dominic Temple wins, running a comfortable and even pace. Grade 6 Fiona Pavlovska battles a cold and the leader over all three and 3/4 laps, places 2nd.

400m - Grade 4 Charlie Pilz wins in what should be a new personal best 1:11. Grade 4 Evan Carter placed well in his heat and 7th overall.

800m - Grade 6 Fiona still battles her cough, and pushes second lap to place 4th and qualify for the next round. Grade 4's Charlie Pilz and Charlie Mills, endure 4 restarts due to athletes falling; they finish 1st and 2nd respectively. Grade 6 Dominic Temple pushes hard on the second lap to finish within a second of his teammate in first place, earns a second place.

200m - Grade 4 Calvin Warrillow uses a beautiful stride to win the sprint. Not far behind him was Grade 4 Evan Carter in 5th.

Standing Long  Jump - Grade 3 Christopher Gregory uses his leg power to jump into 4th place.

Triple Jump - Calvin Warrillow takes the victory

4x100m Relay - Grade 2 Nate Warrillow finishes 5th. Grade 3 Christopher Gregory finishes 2nd. And a Grade 4 team made up of Charlie Pilz, Sebastian McIsaac, Calvin Warrillow and had Charlie Mills as a sub placed 1st.

So the awards tally. 7 first place ribbons, 4 second place ribbons,
