The South Conference Final is set to take place this Monday, October 15th on our home turf. All races will be contested by a number of Boardwalk athletes. 35 Boardwalk athletes have qualified to represent their school at this meet. The results from the first 3 qualifying races were impressive. Boardwalk athletes finished in the top ten, 27 times. How about an impressive 21 top 5 finishes. A further impressive 13 top 3 finishes. And when it comes to winning a race, Boardwalk athletes were able to lead the pack in 8 races!
Here is the top 10 place breakdown. 1st-8 2nd-3 3rd-2 4th-2 5th-6 6th-1 7th-0 8th-0 9th-3 10th-2 What to look for on Monday. Will Cole Harmer repeat as Champion? He is being chased by 4 of his teammates who also had top 10 finishes in the first round. (Caeden Smith 3rd, James Yates 5th, William Scharf 5th, Marcus Matejka 10th) A grade 6 girls race featuring 5 Boardwalkers, Eleanor Chapman (2nd), Imogen Watson (3rd), Madeline Chapman (4th), Kyla Tse (6th), and Ella Lockhart (15th). A grade 7 boys race featuring a strong Jamie Parkin looking to win his first City Final. Jamie comes into the race winning a club meet in Burlington this weekend. The grade 5 girls race will be another first and second battle between Alexandra Mills and Chloe Pilz. Alexandra leads a group of 6 boardwalk girls that qualified. Battle’s between round 1 winners in the grade 6 boys race and the grade 8 girls race. Xavier Bird and Alic Webster will face off in the grade 6 boys race. While in the grade 8 girls race, Emma Molloy who won on Oct 4th will race teammate Cassidy Smyth-Robinson who won on October 3rd. The grade 8 boys race looks to be interesting as grade 7 City Champion Charlie Mills looks to claim a conference title after finishing 2nd in the first round. Should be a good day of racing. Good luck to all!

The cross country season is in full swing. So far the Boardwalk crew has travelled to Pickering and Albion Hills for club meets, and is looking forward to competing in Burlington and Etobicoke in the next few weeks. And when you include their busy school competition schedule the kilometres really add up.
The kids have been competing well for club and school. Highlights would include a win for Grace in the Durham Dragons meet, a Tyke girls team silver at the same meet; 23 athletes and parents competing in the Don Olson Classic in Albion Hills, with many age group winners taking home Nike prizes, and followed by a big team barbecue in the park. School meets have been just as eventful with Boardwalk athletes finishing in top places and qualifying for conference finals, which take place this Friday. Amongst the winners at the school races were: Grade 4 Chloe P., Cole H. Grade 6 Jamie P., Judah M. Grade 7 Evan C. Grade 8 Lucy C., Simon G. and runner-ups Grade 4 Alexandra M., Grade 5 Xavier B. and Grade 7 Charlie M. A total of 23 Boardwalk athletes qualified and will compete on Friday. Stay tuned for future results. Upcoming races: TDSB elem. To say that Boardwalk had a good day at the track would be an understatement. Our season of hardwork has paid off at the right time. A personal best is always a great reward to a season of training. Our athletes peaked at the right time and will look towards new goals in the months ahead. We are honoured to present to you our three city champions Dominic Temple, Lucy Carpenter, and Charlie Mills. Dominic Temple ran in his last elementary school race, as a grade 8, on Tuesday, June 13th. After years of hard work, Dominic transformed from a runner who just barely made the track team, to one that could be competitive, and finally one that found the strength to sprint the last 100m of any 800m race. In both the Conference and in the City Final Dominic showed the patience of a seasoned veteran. He allowed others to take to the lead through the first lap and waited till 500m until he started to make his move. By 700m he would be running in 2nd, and by 750m he was sprinting his way to the finish line with the only kick in the race. He beat his personal best by 5 seconds! Lucy Carpenter came to win the 1500m. Her 5:08 seed time was the top seed going in by 5 seconds. However, the finals always brings everyone's best effort. Lucy's 5:08 is a personal best time she had run at least 3 times before. She was conservative during her first 400m, but she was anxious to get away from the pack. She started pulling away, but so did her competition. There was now a push for the line. But just like Dominic, when it was time to sprint and close out the race, Lucy was the only one that could answer that call. She set a new personal best and broke the 5 minute barrier for the first time. Charlie Mills was also eyeing that 5 minute barrier as well. He had been flirting with it for weeks coming within 3 seconds of it a few times. It has been Charlie's goal since I met him, to improve each year and to win when he reached grade 6. I'm proud to announce that he has reached this goal. Charlie nearly ran away with the race from wire to wire. His competition was the fire within himself that said go faster, finish faster, get the time, get the time. When he crossed the line he was happy. He had become a city champion. But when he found out he ran under 5 minutes he jumped with excitement and raised his hands. He had accomplished what he had set out to do. Those are only a few stories of this season. Read the times below and try to imagine some of the other stories from this meet. Some new stories from the runners below are beginning to be written, we look forward to everyones continued success. Next goal race is the MTA Provincial Championship in July. Until then run with focus. * denotes personal bests Gr 6 80m - 8th Dennis, Bree prelim 11.34 Final 11.58 Gr 6 200m - 6th Dennis, Bree 29.38 Gr 5 60mH - 6th Malloy, Judah prelim 10.19 Final 10.52 Gr 5 400m - 10th Malloy, Judah 1:11.35 Gr 6 400m - 5th Pilz, Charlie 1:05.21 Gr 8 400m - 10th Morgan, Reese 1:09.52 Gr 4 800m - 2nd Bird, Xavier 2:39.63* Gr 6 800m - 3rd Pilz, Charlie 2:27.49* Gr 6 800m - 4th Gray, William 2:30.71* Gr 6 800m - 6th Mills, Charlie 2:31.66 Gr 7 800m - 3rd Carpenter, Lucy 2:27.97* Gr 7 800m - 9th Gomes, Simon 2:25.62* Gr 8 800m - 9th Pavlovska, Fiona 2:40.08 Gr 8 800m - 1st Temple, Dominic 2:14.63* Gr 4 1500m - 2nd Bird, Xavier 5:24.89* Gr 6 1500m - 1st Mills, Charlie 4:59.11* Gr 7 1500m - 1st Carpenter, Lucy 4:57.51* Gr 8 1500m - 2nd Pavlovska, Fiona 5:11.89* Gr 8 1500m - 9th Temple, Dominic 4:45.57* Gr 5 Long Jump - 7th Harmer, Naomi 3.74m Gr 6 Long Jump - 16th Carter, Evan Fouled Out Gr 5 Triple Jump - 9th Harmer, Naomi 8.01m Gr 5 4x100m - 8th Malcolm, Cole was on this team 1:00.47 Gr 8 4x400m - 8th Rice, Kalsia & Pavlovska, Fiona were two of the 4 4:50.32 |
